Chip Tsao is an Idiot!

Filipinos around the world are fuming mad over the article, “The War at Home”, by Chip Tsao for HK Magazine. Of course, I am also angry, but not that much. Having lived in Hongkie (I’d always wanted to use that term, thank you Mr. Tsao for giving me the opportunity!) town for about 2 years now, I know that Tsao does not represent the whole Hong Kong populace in this respect. There are plenty of HK Chinese out here who respect and admire Pinoys. It is because of them that I am keeping my cool with this issue.

If you haven’t read it yet, here is the full article written by the great Chip Tsao. See for yourself why this “satire”, as declared by Tsao apologists, is a failure:

—————-

The War at Home
By Chip Tsao

The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen onboard. We can live with that–Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That’s no big problem–we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.

But hold on–even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: There are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as HK$3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.

As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell everyone of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China.

Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her Government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings.

Oh yes. The Government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout ‘China, Madam/Sir’ loudly whenever they hear the word “Spratly”. They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, “Long live Chairman Mao!” at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that’s going a bit too far, at least for the time being.

have you seen in movies,TVs or even in real life that we make fun of people with black skin, we call them negro, panget etc… and also chinese we make fun on their accent and we even sing butchiki…

do you still remember what sen. miriam santiago said on her speech?

“China invented civilization in the East, but as well it invented corruption for all of human civilization.”

    isnt that racist?

now if its our turn to be joke then we cry and say foul.. lets clean first our own house!!!!

Joe: Not all Filipinos are racist. We should not generalize. My post does not say all Chinese are racist. I did not even call Chip Tsao a racist. I just said he is an idiot because as a veteran media person he should have known better.

It’s not his first time, he has had a history of spreading racist messages. He did call our president Barack Obama a monkey who likes to steal ladies underwear, it was published in a major Hong Kong newspaper, it’s in Chinese so you might have to use babelfish to translate it. I’ve provided a link below.

What enrages me is that this time -being sarcastic or not- he was not only being racist, but he also sneered at people who are in a less privileged position. I have a Filipino domestic helper as well, and she has a university degree in accounting! You think she wanted to become a domestic helper when she was doing her degree? She is only doing it because she has to feed her family. She is a victim of her circumstances, and it’s unacceptable for someone like Chip Tsao to put her down because 1) she’s Filipino and 2) because she is less privileged.

Chip comes off as a terrible person with no ethics or morals, and being from Hong Kong, I can’t help but feel ashamed because he is giving us a bad name!

If we want satire in a major publication like the HK Mag, we’d just go look up Encyclopedia Dramatica. Chip is clearly being unprofessional there.

I apologize on behalf of the Chinese people, Chip Tsao does not represent the opinion of the Hong Kong people in ANYWAY!

Joe: It’s really a shame that HK Magazine has Chip Tsao for a writer… Thanks for posting Mike!

The nerve saying Pinas as “nation of servants”! I think he had taken too much melamine from milk when he was still a kid.

I think he had received too much publicity already. Giving his blasted article too much hype is like giving him a Pulitzer for attention – which he craves for. Should we expect a sincere apology? Duh?!

    Joe: Tama duskfading!

Okey. Let us put this nation’s anger to good use.

Can someone out there lead a petition calling the good government of the Philippines to have an Executive Order that states that 90% OFW remittances will be used purely to build infrastructure that could generate permanent jobs for their love ones or for all Filipinos, that this funds will be administered by an independent body with good people and that no politician could become a member.
    —————-
Joe: That would be good. Thanks for dropping by Ka Loren.

being a servant is NOT BAD, it depends on HOW people look at it? one way or the other WE ARE ALL SERVANTS in MANY WAYS… for THOSE people PRETENDING to be INTELLIGENT- before SAYING or DOING something PLEASE THINK at least twice before going any further…YOU never know what will be the result of your IGNORANCE…..

Mr. Mr. Chip Tsao- You should be thankful you have a good job as a WRITER and not as A TOILET BOWL CLEANER as you treat OTHER people trying to earn their livings in a GOOD & MORAL way.instead of being a racist and saying something BAD about ANYONE, why dont YOU just use your TALENT in the GOOD WAY…

I’m SURE ALL FILIPINOS around the WORLD will be PRAYING for YOU….
    —————-
Joe: I like everything you said. Galing! Mabuhay ka!!!

Chip Tsao is not only an idiot but a racist communist who deserve to die a very painful death. I can’t wait to get my hands on that @#$@# commy.

Joe: Dapat mag-ingat na itong si Chip Tsao.

  8. 9 Mountain Montes Sabado 4 Abril 2009 bandang 2:03 hapon

Chip Tsao’s racist remarks against Filipinos is maybe the first full frontal assault, an attempt at blatant intimidation, trying to see if we’re willing to pick up a fight with these billion-strong yellows. Hey they’ve taken over the Philippine economic backbone, so why not declare supremacy over us Filipinos entirely, he thought.
Well Tsao, if it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get! Fighting words for such a coward like you.
    —————
Joe: I would certainly want to be on your side in case there would be a fight.

    Chuck.Filipino,

The thing that escalates our anger as Filipino towards Chip “Cheapshot” Tsao are the below the belt racial slurring, if you are a Filipino and has no idea about the DH in Hong Kong here it is….most domestic worker in Hong Kong are already doing menial job for long hours and demeaning them more by saying they are from “nation of servants” are like saying we are slaves, have we Filipinos not learn from the treatment by the Spanish bastards? it’s like stepping your foot on a persons head when you know they are already downtrodden. If this cruel act of racism are ignored it will make the domestic helper in a much more vulnerable position than were they are now. We should have learned a lot from the WWII were racist act kills millions of people because they justify that the other race are sub-human and deserves to be treated as such. If you Analyze to where Chip Tsao is getting, he is basically telling the entirety of Hong Kong that these group of Filipinos are working for us, and how dare them to bite the hands that feed them (but what really has the dometic helper did, this is about spratly, and both parties has politician that resolve issues like this)… in other words Chip Tsao in his tactless ire of sh!t writing thinks of the domestic helper as subhuman as such ask them to shout “Jia You!” cheers for the Chinese, can you dig the parallel happening that the Japanese occupation did of East and South East Asia?

In Miriam’s comment about the Chinese, if you analyze the sentence, she gave great compliment on the first sentence and balances it out with disparagement of their achievements but it does not state anything racially demeaning.

I do hope that most Hong Kong people have the same point of view as Mike (commented below).

I am personally has a gnawing teeth against Chip Tsao but I do hope that he’s just an aberration to the professional journalist and citizens of Hong Kong. We therefore should stop fanning the flame by saying anything racially demeaning towards the Chinese too because this will never be ending argument that may only end up at arms. We Filipinos abroad, are here on other land to seek greener pasture so we can feed the families at home, it is a big sacrifice…
    —————
Joe: Yes! You are a true Filipino. Thanks for dropping by.

    Shame on you Chip Tsao,
Let’s say China >> NATION OF FACTORY WORKER
Filipinos are more educated than Chinese…
Filipino aren’t illegal immigrant in west. they don’t sell fake DVD’s on street in west..
Filipino got lot better respect in the world than Chinese.

  11. 12 nold Sabado 20 Hunyo 2009 bandang 10:39 umaga

It was a case of bad commentary, this person is obviously a racist – and for someone in his level, he should know better. Filipinos are easily offended, we are very sensitive because we know our realities, but low income or professionals, we must be very proud of our kababayan for the simple reason that their sacrificing a lot for their family – our government best efforts is sending more laborers abroad with the compliments of being honored as bagong bayani – this is a cycle we must break!

Joe: Musta!.. Mali kasi ang mindset ng gobyerno natin.
